DONNA Ascher will spend time behind bars to raise much-needed funds for the young people she supports.
Ms Ascher (pictured), a senior advice officer at Sunshine Magistrates Court for more than 20 years, will take part in this year’s Whitelion Bail Out on May 31.
“I wanted to step into the shoes of the young people I work with every day to gain an insight into how they feel when they are locked up,” she says.
“I also wanted to raise much-needed funding for this cause because in my role I’m often limited in the time I give to each young person, so organisations like Whitelion are able to pick them up where we left off.”
The Deer Park resident has formed a team with four others who will face the judiciary to be sentenced at Old Melbourne Gaol.
They must raise $5000 to be released. Whitelion helps disadvantaged young people in the youth justice system or those at risk of involvement through support groups and mentor programs.
