BRIMBANK Council will host a program to highlight the risks of problem gambling among youth during Responsible Gambling Awareness Week (May 20-26).
A seminar at Sunshine library on May 22 will showcase art produced by year 7 and 8 students as part of a competition exploring the theme ‘Responsible Gambling – For the Family”.
There will also be guest speakers from Gambler’s Help Western and HealthWest Partnership.
Council chairman John Watson said parents needed to be particularly vigilant about the types of online applications their children were using, given the availability and ease of access to free online gambling applications.
“Research shows that many parents and teachers are mostly unaware of the dangers being posed to children and teenagers by free gaming apps,” he said.
The seminar is from 3.30-5pm. For support with problem gambling, phone 1800 858 858 or visit gamblinghelponline.org.au
