A woman who killed her husband when she crashed into a brick fence while speeding in East Keilor has been jailed. Tanya Lee Mitchell, 26, was jailed for 2½ years for the crash that killed Sandeep Singh, her husband of three months.
Mitchell lost control of her car in Milleara Road at 2.15am on August 22, 2010. The County Court heard last Wednesday that Mitchell recorded a blood-alcohol level of .077 an hour after the crash and was speeding in a 60km/h zone when she lost control of the car. It veered across two lanes and crashed into the end pillar of a brick fence outside a house.
Mr Singh died at the scene, while Mitchell suffered a serious head injury. The court heard Mitchell had largely recovered from her injuries and was extremely remorseful.
