BRIMBANK police nabbed almost 70 drivers for speeding over the Easter holiday break.
Acting Sergeant Adam Wojcik said 69 drivers were caught speeding between Good Friday and Easter Monday.
They included a Taylors Lakes man in his late 20s who was caught travelling at 159km/h in an 80 zone on the Deer Park bypass.
Acting Sergeant Wojcik said police also nabbed four suspended drivers, impounded two cars and caught 11 motorists using their mobile phones.
From 2152 breath tests conducted, only two drivers were caught driving above the legal limit.
“In terms of drink-driving we are pleased with results, but hoon driving and speed continue to be major issues for Brimbank,” Acting Sergeant Wojcik said. Police would continue to target speeding drivers, with additional officers patrolling Sunshine and Taylors Lakes this month.
In Melton, police breath-tested 3066 people, with four motorists nabbed for being over the limit. Police recorded 99 offences in total, including infringements for drink-driving, speeding, using mobile phones, not wearing a seatbelt and unregistered vehicles.
Melton’s Inspector Stephen Mutton said they were pleased with the results.
“The good news was there were no fatals and I believe no serious injury collisions in Melton,” he said.
“Overall we’re very happy with the behaviour from Good Friday [onwards].”
