Rocks damage cars

Rocks as large as basketballs have been deliberately placed on roads in Braybrook. Police said three incidents were reported early last Thursday after cars were damaged by rocks. No one was injured. Police said a hatchback drove over one rock on Duke Street about 1.40am, ripping the undercarriage from the car, which had to be towed away. About 20 minutes later, a rock thrown from a passing vehicle hit a taxi on Ballarat Road, near Ashley Street. At 2.45am, a car tyre and alloy rim were destroyed when a vehicle hit another rock at the intersection of Ballarat Road and Duke Street. Sunshine’s Sergeant Darren Anderson said the incidents were believed to have been the result of deliberate actions. “The potential for there to be a tragedy because of the recklessness or plain stupidity of those who may be doing this for kicks, is very real.”

Hoops joy in Keilor

The state government has announced $650,000 for the redevelopment of Keilor Basketball and Netball Stadium. Sport and Recreation Minister Hugh Delahunty said expanding sports infrastructure was crucial for growing areas. “Along with the proposed new change rooms and storage areas, the redevelopment will help address the shortage of basketball and netball facilities in the region, which has more players than courts.”

Drunken hoon driver fined

A Bacchus Marsh man has had his licence cancelled for six months after he was caught speeding on the Western Highway near Rockbank. Police said the man, 26, was nabbed at 134km/h in a 100 zone on March 9. He also returned a blood-alcohol reading of .078 and was fined $881.
