Huge rocks damage cars in Braybrook

ROCKS as large as basketballs have been placed deliberately on roads in Braybrook in what police have described as an incredibly stupid and dangerous act.

Three incidents were reported to police early on Thursday after cars were damaged by rocks.

About 1.40am, a hatchback drove over one rock on Duke Street, near Burke Street, ripping the undercarriage from the car, which then had to be towed away. The Metropolitan Fire Brigade had to clean oil from the road.

About 20 minutes later, a rock thrown from a passing vehicle hit a taxi on Ballarat Road, near Ashley Street.

Then, about 2.45am, a car tyre and alloy rim were completely destroyed when the car hit another rock at the intersections of Ballarat Road and Duke Street.

Sergeant Darren Anderson from Sunshine police said the incidents were believed to have been the result of deliberate actions, and it was fortunate no one had been injured.

“The potential for there to be a tragedy, because of the recklessness or just plain stupidity of those who may be doing this for kicks, is very real,” he said.

“If your friends or mates are bragging about what they are doing, think twice and do the right thing, give us a call.”

Anyone with information is asked to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
