EVER thought car number plates weren’t worth stealing? Think again.
Keilor Downs police and the SES will hold a ‘safe plate day’ at Brimbank shopping centre in Deer Park this Saturday from 9am-1pm.
SES volunteers and police like Constable Daniel Bolger (pictured) will refit existing number plates with anti-theft screws, while officers will also offer crime prevention advice.
Sergeant Gary Hopper said the event was a positive step toward reducing crime in the area.
“Number plate theft represents 50 per cent of crime committed against motor vehicles, and the stolen plates are then sometimes used in the commission of crime,” he said.
“We strongly encourage people to come down on the day and take part in a proactive approach to protecting their vehicles.”
