KEILOR Park is ready to host Brimbank’s biggest soccer event.
The second annual Brimbank Cup will attract 31 senior teams from across the municipality to Keilor Park Reserve this weekend.
There will be 24 teams in eight men’s groups and seven teams in two women’s pools.
Parkers secretary Paul Portelli says that preparation have been ongoing since the middle of last year.
“It’s a big event,” he said. “More teams are involved this year and the club’s raring to go to put on a good showpiece.”
Running a major event is not new for Keilor Park. The club hosts its annual junior tournament with success.
Portelli says the idea behind the Cup is to unite Brimbank’s multicultural community. “It’s getting people involved and breaking down those barriers,” he said.
Portelli says the competition is useful for clubs to try out new players. “It’s more of a friendly atmosphere because of the timing.”
Keilor Park will entertain Victorian Premier League opposition Green Gully Cavaliers in an early Saturday game, 9am kick off. The finals will take place on Sunday with the women’s at 3pm and the men’s at 5pm.
