ROAD closures and changed traffic conditions will continue in Sunshine and Albion over coming months as Regional Rail Link works proceed towards Deer Park.
Anderson Road will be closed overnight tomorrow from 9 o’clock between Ridley Street and Foundry Road, while Talmage Street between King Edward Avenue and The Gables will be closed from tomorrow until late February. Barriers will go up next week along Fitzgerald Road between Whitesides Avenue and Forrest Street in Sunshine, blocking Fitzgerald Road from 8pm Sunday until 4am the next day.
Forrest Street will be closed to westbound traffic between Anderson Road and Sydney Street from Friday until February 17, with traffic diverted via Ridley Street.
RRL stakeholder relations and communications manager Tim Holmes said the closures would allow work to continue on the removal of a level crossing on Anderson Road, Sunshine. To improve safety at Sunshine West’s Fitzgerald Road crossing, RRL will also widen the road between Whitesides Avenue and the level crossing near Forrest Street and Tilburn Road. These works will start on Sunday and continue for about six months.
Upgrades to the bus interchange at Sunshine station will start on February 18. This involves demolition of the existing bus interchange area and construction of a new interchange and bus stops, as well as landscaping.
Residents and businesses are being advised to expect significant construction noise.
Access to Sunshine station and the location of bus stops and taxi ranks will be changed while the works take place.
A temporary bus interchange will operate from the City Place car park on the south side of the station, serving some bus routes and Metro and V/Line replacement services.
