Top plonk, without the snobbery

Forget wine snobbery and people looking down their noses if you don’t know your pinot gris from your pinot grigio. Those days are gone. Places like The Seddon Wine Store emphasise this sentiment through the relaxed and professional approach they take to serving and selling their wines.

Friendly, approachable service backed up with knowledge about very interesting drops is what this lovely little room on Victoria Street is all about.

Add a smart menu of simple dishes designed to share and you have a quality experience.

The size of Seddon Wine Store is deceptive from the outside. The single-shop frontage leads into a simple room, where at once you’re met with bench tables on one side and floor-to-ceiling shelves of wine bottles on the other. Don’t walk in here expecting big commercial wines or buy-in-bulk-and-save offers. This is a shop dedicated to boutique wines from Australia, New Zealand and Europe.

It is a bottle shop — you can take away any of the wines on the shelves or in the fridges — but it’s also a wine bar where you can stop and enjoy a glass or bottle of wine and some very good dishes.

The wines-by-the-glass list is sharp, with a great range of well-priced varieties that rounds out the experience. And ask as many questions as you like. There are no wine snobs here.
