St Albans siege: Manhunt after stabbing

POLICE are searching for a man involved in a siege in St Albans earlier today
after raiding the property and finding it empty.

A police spokeswoman said a manhunt was underway after the Special Operations
Group stormed the Grant Street house this afternoon.

Police besieged the house after the man allegedly stabbed another man in the
neck on Friday morning.

Earlier, heavily-armed police were negotiating with the man, aged in his 20s,
with several streets in the area cordoned off.

Police said they believed the man had access to weapons, including a gun,
Radio 3AW reported.

Police were called to the house about 7.30am and found a man with a stab
wound to the neck. He was taken to the Sunshine Hospital where he remains in a
serious but non life-threatening condition.

Local police and dog squad members were also at the scene, with the public
advised to avoid the area.

The area was cordoned off and traffic diversions were in place. The
intersection at Gladstone Street and Cleveland Street, and Grant and Main Road
West were blocked.
