Public art has pride of place in Derrimut

PUBLIC art by sculptor Martin Moore (pictured) sits in the heart of Derrimut’s Balmoral Park. Moore’s ‘spiral graph seat’ was unveiled at the opening of the new park last Wednesday.

The artwork was installed as part of a council plan to include more urban art in the city. Council chairman John Watson said the park would benefit many residents living in the wider Deer Park area.

“This project has enabled us to put in place high-quality, fully accessible facilities and services for community user groups, sporting clubs, spectators and visitors that will meet the needs of the growing district.”

A sports pavilion next to the Derrimut Community Centre will hold up to 200 people. The park features playgrounds, walking paths and a basketball practice area.

The $8 million project was jointly funded by the council, state and federal governments.
