AUSTRALIA Day award nominations for Brimbank and Melton close on December 7.
Both councils include new citizenship ceremonies and presentations in their January 26 public celebrations.
Nominees may be a teacher, friend, neighbour or community leader who’s made a difference to community life.
Brimbank’s celebrations, including a family barbecue and entertainment, will be held at Sunshine’s Kevin Wheelahan Gardens.
The event will include the naming of Brimbank’s citizen and young citizen of the year and the community well-being award, presented to an individual or group responsible for building a supportive and welcoming community or creating healthy and safe places.
The environmental achievement award recognises individuals or groups whose passion for the environment leads to land conservation, preservation, protection, replenishment or education.
Brimbank’s cultural achievement award recognises the work or contribution of individuals or groups involved in the city’s artistic and cultural life, while the teacher of the year award recognises those involved in education through community groups, organisations, businesses and schools.
Melton’s Australia Day celebrations will be at the Willows Historical Park on Reserve Road, starting with a public breakfast at 9am. The day’s celebrations include presentations of ‘citizen of the year’, ‘young citizen of the year’ and ‘community group’ or ‘project of the year’ awards.
