SUNSHINE is flexing its pitching muscle in the Baseball Victoria summer league division 1.
The Eagles blanked the Upwey-Ferntree Gully Tigers 12-0 in a midweek stoush at Melbourne Ballpark.
It was the newly promoted club’s third shut-out since its elevation to the big league.
Eagles playing coach Shaun Moore said there was a sense of belief in all their teams.
“There is a bit of belief within the playing group that we have the group to be a division 1 club.
“All through the grades, the club has actually been outstanding. The seconds, the thirds, the fourths . . . everyone is pulling out wins.
“It’s really pleasing from my perspective that we are doing so well.”
Rory Meddick was on the mound for the Eagles in their 12-run mauling of the Tigers. The 2011-12 division 2 MVP delivered his best performance in a stop-start season.
“He was really sharp,” Moore said. “He’s only thrown about 10 innings before that. He’s back in the gym and getting pretty fit again, and he is doing really well.”
Adam Irons and Leigh Ashmore were outstanding with the bat.
The Eagles are still relying on smart team-hitting to win games.
“Good team-hitting is what it’s all about,” Moore said. “If you hit for the team, you win games.”
The Eagles, who backed up for a second clash with the Tigers on Sunday, face a daunting trip to ladder leader Geelong Baycats on Saturday.
