Cultural responses to climate change

BRIMBANK’S home-grown film stars Monica Kanbang, Manmohan Shergill and Durba Dhiman (pictured) have come together to launch a landmark documentary on climate change.

The trio feature in the film Living With Climate Change — A Story Of Many Told By Few, launched on November 9 to an audience of more than 50 residents.

The film explores sustainability practices of Brimbank’s Burmese, Indian, Sudanese and Vietnamese communities. More than 60 residents were part of the project, which examined how they intend to deal with climate change impacts.

Brimbank Council’s community planning co-ordinator, Kath Brackett, said many residents had previously lived in communities where they experienced shortages of water, gas and electricity. She said their ideas on sustainable practices, such as growing their own fruit and vegetables, were explored in the film.
