Caroline Springs may have a future Olympian on its hands, with Lakeview Senior College student Zara Keca now a state champion in two separate fields.
The year 11 student took out the 100 metres hurdles in 14.98 seconds and cleared 11.25 metres in the triple jump at the School Sport Victoria secondary track and field championships’ under-17 division. She also finished third in the long jump.
It’s just reward for Zara, who trains four days a week with Commonwealth Games medallist Alwyn Jones and has hopes of making the world junior championships in Russia next year.
“We’re immensely proud of her achievements and would like to celebrate this remarkable effort as she’s a very humble, but elite, athlete,” her school’s acting assistant principal, Mark Jones, told Star Weekly.
“She’s been participating in athletics for the past seven years.”
