Keilor Wolves hopes of a second straight promotion look destined to go down to the final round of the FV state league 4 west season.
After getting promoted for being on top of the state league 5 west season when it ended early due to COVID-19, the Wolves have had their eyes on getting a title this season and along with it promotion.
The Wolves enter Saturday’s game with Greenvale, one point behind ladder leaders Westside Strikers.
Both teams have a catch up game in the run home, many a loss could be season defining for either side.
Wolves coach Sofiane Soufi said they were just staying focused on the task at hand.
“We have been trying to keep the top spot, but we lost it as we didn’t play last weekend,” he said.
“Westside won, as did Laverton, we have some tough games coming up.
“The only way we will get promoted is to win every game and hope Westside drop a game or have a draw.”
Soufi said they were doing every they could to get promoted, but know nothing is guaranteed or handed to them.
He said the squad had been in good form and were primed for the last few weeks of the season.
“We’ll do everything we can to get promoted,” he said. “That’s the reason why we are playing football.
“The confidence is high and we are prepared for us to be competitive until the last week of the season.
“We are thankful and excited to be at this part of the season and in the mix to be promoted again.”
Soufi said like every team there had been issues with illness and injury, but he had been pleased how they handled them.
He said the squad was in good shape going into the last few weeks.
“Our form has been good the last few weeks,” he said. “With the flu and injuries we had to plan for those this season.
“We had a larger squad than usual for that reason.
“They’ve consistently played well week in week out.”
