Blues skipper hits out

A stunning knock from Keilor captain Kaushal Lokuarachchi has inspired the Blues to continue their unbeaten start to Victorian Turf Cricket’s north-west division season.

Set 195 for victory by Sunshine United, the Blues returned to Selwyn Park knowing only their best would be enough to get the job done.

United opening bowler Michael Glowacki claimed first blood, taking two of the first three wickets to put Keilor on the back foot at 3-30.

Then Lokuarachchi arrived in the middle. The former Sri Lankan first-class player wasted no time making himself at home, compiling a brilliant 93 and remaining at the crease until Keilor trailed by only 15 runs.

The batting side reached the target for the loss of five wickets soon after his departure.

Also among the runs was Daniel Stavris (41) and Robert Cook (39).

For Sunshine United, Glowacki finished with 3-48 and was well supported by Indika Dharmawardane (2-30).

This week, the Blues take on West Coburg while the Tigers meet the Druids.

Elsewhere in north-west division, poor batting cost Keilor Park a shot at victory against Seddon.

Set 190, Keilor Park succumbed for 136 in the 68th over.

In North A1, St Albans enjoyed an outright win against Jacana.

Chasing 142, the Saints bashed and crashed their way to the total, opening batsman Geeth Alwis leading the way with a stellar 152.

After declaring 100 runs ahead, St Albans bowlers’ again delivered the goods, removing Jacana for 96.
