The Victorian Turf Cricket Association senior division grand final will be postponed following the decision to postpone one of the semi finals.
Aberfeldie and Yarraville Club, and Deer Park and Haig Fawkner were set to play their semi finals on Saturday and Sunday, but the latter didn’t go ahead.
The decision to postpone the Haig Fawkner and Deer Park semi final, stems from a court matter between Haig and the association.
Four Haig players received heavy suspensions following the Sunshine United game.
The association notified the remaining senior division clubs of the decision on Saturday to postpone the match.
“The VTCA board of management have received correspondence from Deer Park Cricket Club expressing concern over the semi-final game of Haig Fawkner v Deer Park scheduled for today and tomorrow (March 11 and 12),” the VTCA said in correspondence seen by Star Weekly.
“Deer Park Cricket Club have asked that the game be postponed.
“Due to the current court matter between Haig v VTCA before the magistrates court a interim injunction has been granted to the five Haig Fawkner players [to play] for seven days until the matter be finalised next Friday.
“In light of fairness and equity it has been decided that the match scheduled for today be postponed until the matter is finalised next Friday before the court.”
Haig Fawkner’s second XI semi final with Aberfeldie was also postponed.
Reserve grand finals days, March 25 and 26, had been put aside heading into the finals. The grand final will now be played on those days.
The other semi final went ahead with Aberfeldie making 224 on day one.
