Western United’s FFA Cup campaign came to an end on Tuesday night against Wellington Phoenix.

A header from Ben Waine in the 35th minute put the Phoenix in front and that would be enough to seal the 1-0 win.

Like United coach John Aloisi predicted after the side’s A-League win against Melbourne City on Saturday night, a different looking side took to the park.

There were 11 changes to the starting line-up, with a whole new line up getting their opportunity to impress.

Captain for the night Nikolai-Topor-Stanley had a chance early on to give his side a lead with his header tipped over the bar by goalkeeper Oliver Sail.

There weren’t many other chances for United for the rest of the game, with Dalibor Milanovic going closest to getting the equaliser with 15 minutes to go.

United now focuses on its next A-League match against Brisbane Roar on Saturday.
