Western United left with a point after leading 2-0 in their derby on Saturday night at AAMI Park.
The top of the table clash against Melbourne City was always going to be competitive with both sides eager to gain a win to find top-spot on the ladder.
Having had the draw, the two teams still remain equal on points with 33, although City have played two more games than United.
Goal-scorers for United opened with Léo Lacroix, knocking a header through the legs of the keeper from a corner, to pick up his third goal in two games.
Western United made it 2-0 in the 30th minute through Rene Krhin, who received a quality pass from Dylan Pierias that led him to shooting a goal in the bottom left corner.
City were able to make a comeback however through Connor Metcalfe who remarkably banged a ball into the top corner just before halftime.
In the 63rd minute Jamie Maclaren’s quality came to life when he curled a ball around United goalkeeper Jamie Young on a difficult angle to level the score at 2-2.
Each team left with a point having drawn the match.
Western United will face Sydney FC in their next game on Saturday March 19.
