The Fevolution begins at Deer Park

Star forward Brendan Fevola lived up to all the hype with 10 goals on debut for Deer Park in the Western Region Football League division 1 on Saturday.

Fevola showed he will be a key plank in the Lions’ quest for a fourth consecutive division 1 flag as the Lions thumped Hoppers Crossing 15.8 (98)-7.10 (52) at John McLeod Oval.

Fevola, who played 204 AFL games with Carlton and Brisbane Lions, was previously with Yarrawonga, where he won two premierships and kicked 357 goals in 65 games.

He decided it was time to cut down the travel time and play closer to home and a major appeal of Deer Park was the chance to play alongside long-time friend and former Carlton teammate Ryan Houlihan.

Other results

Meanwhile, St Albans went down by eight points to Spotswood, despite having seven more scoring shots, and Sunshine Kangaroos claimed their first win by 15 points over Albion.

In division 2, Caroline Springs held on for dear life to beat North Footscray by seven points in a thriller. Even at this early stage in the season, people are tipping this to be a preview of this year’s grand final.
