Taylors Lakes returns to the winners list

Taylors Lakes returned to the winners list on Saturday in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association for the first time since February 2020.

The new-look Lions, who didn’t win a game last season, proved too strong for Hoppers Crossing in the first match of the south-west season.

The Lions bowlers fired early on to bowl the Cats out for 115.

Harsahib Singh was the pick of the bowlers, taking 5-15 off his 7.2 overs.

The Lions started well with the bat before losing four quick wickets, to slip to 4-78. The Lions steadied to finish 5-116 in the 32nd over.

Lachlan Marr top scored with 34.

Spotswood had a winning start to life in Subbies beating Port Melbourne.

Port Melbourne battled to 128, bowled out in the 29th over.

Dan Schuppan starred with the ball for Spotswood, taking 6-24 from 7.3 overs.

Spotswood lost the wicket of Riley Vernon early for a duck, but steadied to finish 3-130 and get the win in the 25th over.

Reigning premiers Werribee suffered a first up loss to Caulfield, while Oakleigh proved too strong for Altona.

Williamstown was skittled by Moorabbin, with Yarraville beating Melton in a high scoring affair.

In the north-east, Callum Nankervis guided Plenty Valley to a win against Bayswater.

Bayswater made 8-194 from its 45 overs, with Simon Black taking four wickets for the Bats.

Nankervis made 88 not out as the Bats finished 2-196 with three overs remaining.
