Taylors Lakes humbled by Kew crew

Taylors Lakes barely fired a shot in a 181-run thrashing at the hands of Kew in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association at Lionheart Reserve on Saturday.

Set a massive 259, the Lions limped to 77 all out, then avoided an outright loss to finish with 8-114 in the second innings.

Taylors Lakes could barely have had a more disastrous day with the bat when it mattered most. Aside from a 52-run opening stand between captain Mick Brne (15) and Dilan Chandima (39), the first innings was a total write-off.

The last eight Lions batsmen combined for 16 runs. They had no answer to the bowling of Ross Suri, who took an incredible 5-7 off eight overs.

The second innings was about damage limitation for Taylors Lakes. The Lions faced 42 overs to avoid the outright, which is a plus. They also had more contributors second time around, including some solid batting from Tynan Arnold (28) and Samuel Clark (24 not out).

In the Victorian Turf Cricket Association, Keilor faces a battle in its senior division clash with Greenvale Kangaroos at Greenvale Recreation Reserve. The Blues finished a rain affected opening day on 8-82 off 48 overs.

The game had been reduced to 64 overs a side with the Blues to resume their innings on Saturday.

In north west division, Sunshine United was all out for just 57 against Keilor Park at Ray Davies Reserve.

St Albans is well placed against PEGS after posting 232 on day one at Kings Park Reserve.
