Sydenham-Hillside had little trouble winning through to the Victorian Turf Cricket Association division 4 Charles Clark Shield grand final.
Having lost just one game since the Christmas break, the Storm have been the form team of the competition and showed why at the weekend against Williamstown Congs in a semi-final.
The Congs were 0-47, before losing 10-85. They were eventually bowled out for just 132.
Storm vice-president and player Warren Hackney said it was coach Dane Currency that set the tone with the ball.
“All our bowlers were able to do the job and were led by Dane,” he said.
“Dane was amazing with his accuracy and consistency and showed his class.
“He took 6-44 off about 30 overs … on a batting-friendly deck.”
The Storm had 11 overs to face before stumps. While they lost two wickets, they kept the run rate up and were 2-52 at stumps.
“We were pretty positive and didn’t go into our skins,” Hackney said. “We lost a couple of wickets, but we put in a decent chunk of the total.”
The Storm lost just one wicket on Sunday, finishing 3-135.
Ben Green had yet another half century.
The Storm face Maribyrnong Park St Marys in this season’s grand final. For many in the Storm playing group it’s their second grand final in three years.
Hackney said they will have a challenge ahead of them.
“They [Maribyrnong Park St Marys] have the bragging rights this season, we haven’t been able to beat them.
“We’re still feeling confident knowing we haven’t played our best against them and we’re hitting our peak at the right time.”
In what was a good weekend for the Storm, their second XI also won through to the grand final. The fourth XI side was knocked out.
With their women’s side already winning their premiership, the Storm could have three senior premierships for the season by the end of the month.
