Sunshine Kangaroos finish on a high note

Sunshine Kangaroos fought out an otherwise disappointing campaign to the bitter end by finishing the WRFL division 1 season with consecutive wins.

The Kangas backed up their victory over Altona in the penultimate round with a 67-point mauling of wooden spooner Wyndhamvale on the road at Wyndhamvale South Oval on Saturday.

Daniel Castellano, Sunshine’s shining light all year, kicked five goals.

Albion has bade farewell to coach Aaron Tymms. The Cats could not get the job done for the club great in his last game, going down by 67 points to Altona at Grant Reserve.

In division 2, Caroline Springs will hit the finals in red-hot form after blasting Yarraville-Seddon off the park in a 76-point win at Town Centre Oval.

After a recent injury scare, Brian Lake has regained his touch in front of goal, kicking 11 majors in the past two weeks, including six on Saturday.

It was not enough for Caroline Springs to jump into the top two and snatch a double chance. It will play cut-throat football from the outset in this year’s finals, starting with a first semi-final against Glen Orden.

In division 3, Sunshine Heights rounded out its season with a 27-point loss to finals bound Sanctuary Lakes in the last round. North Sunshine ended its campaign with a 121-point flogging from premiership contender Parkside. The Roadrunners won three games for the season.
