Cards come out in Sunshine derby

Sunshine Heights has grabbed local bragging rights over North Sunshine after winning a heated Western Region Football League division 3 local derby at Dempster Park on Saturday.

The Heights kicked away with a 14-goal to four second half to run out 76-point winners in a game in which the field umpires had to pull out yellow and red cards.

The victory gives the fifth-placed Heights a handy two-game and percentage buffer over Wyndham Suns in sixth and gets them to within one game of Sanctuary Lakes in fourth.

North Sunshine’s final hopes have all but faded with eight rounds to go.

In division 1, all eyes will be on Hogans Road Reserve this Saturday, where three-peat premier Deer Park will pay a visit to genuine contender Hoppers Crossing.

Deer Park had a convincing 57-point win over Sunshine Kangaroos on Saturday at John McLeod Oval, with Brendan Fevola and Kwame McHarg booting seven goals each in ominous displays.

Albion worked hard to beat Wyndhamvale by 13 points at JR Parsons Reserve, with Todd Finco kicking five goals.

In division 2, Caroline Springs came back from 13 points down at half-time to crush Glen Orden by 64 points. Albanvale was mauled by 120 points away to North Footscray.
