Strong EDFL squad

The Essendon District Football League’s has named an experienced initial squad for the  AFL Victoria Worksafe Community Championships.

The league announced a 49-man name squad from which the team to play Eastern Football League on May 13 at Bayswater Oval will be selected.

Brodie Holland will coach the side and will be assisted by Jordan Doering, Craig Clinnick, Andrew Gibson and Robbie Castello. Jeff Gieschen is again coordinating the program.

All but one player, Jacana gun recruit Cameron Cloke, is playing in EDFL premier division this season. At least 20 of the players have been on AFL lists at one point.

Last year’s runners-up Aberfeldie has the most players selected in the squad with 12, Kyle Reimers, Luke Davis and Luke Blackwell.

Essendon Doutta Stars has nine players selected in the squad,  while Maribynrong Park has six players chosen.

Greenvale recruit Courtenay Dempsey heads the six Jets players selected. He’s joined by Stephen Brewer, who was best afield in last year’s interleague clash, Addam Maric, Fort Caruso, Fabian Deluca and Rowan Nayna.

Reigning premiers Keilor has four players in the squad, with Dean Galea, Luke Cartelli, Andrew Browne and Kane Barbuto. Four Strathmore and Pascoe Vale players are each in the squad, while three Avondale Heights make up the squad.
