There was joy for the Spring Hills men’s side and disappointment for the women’s team in the final round of the FFV state league soccer season.

The men’s side secured promotion with a 2-0 win against Keilor Wolves on Saturday in state league 5 west.

Jarrod Febbraio and Halil Hussein scored for the Stallions.

The win, the Stallions’ 16th of the season, sealed second place and the second promotion spot.

They finished two points behind Laverton Park.

This season has been a big improvement on last season, when the Stallions were relegated from state league 4 west – the competition they will return to next season.

Meanwhile, the Spring Hills women’s side had to settle for third place in state league 3 west.

To finish second, the Stallions needed a win in the final round and for Point Cook to win in the top-of-the-table battle with Hoppers Crossing.

Second place would have given the Stallions the chance to play off in at least one, and possibly two, promotion play-off games.

The Stallions did their part by defeating FC Strathmore 1-0. Yasemin Berkant was the goal-scorer.

Hoppers Crossing upset Point Cook 2-1 to claim second spot.

The Reds finished one point ahead of the Stallions.

The result didn’t matter for Point Cook, which was already assured of the title and promotion.

Meanwhile, Melton Phoenix finished a tough season on a high in state league 4 west.

In a battle between the bottom two sides, both of which will be relegated, the Phoenix took home the points against Newmarket Phoenix by winning 5-0.

Despite the win, the Phoenix finished the season last with just two wins for the year.
