Spotswood continued on its winning ways and Hoppers Crossing got a vital win as the Victorian Sub-District Cricket south west season resumed.
With some players on holidays and many clubs impacted by the pandemic and having players isolated, there were some new faces among the sides on Saturday.
Spotswood, in its first season in the competition, recorded another win, this time beating Brighton.
Brighton made 134, with Spotswood sharing the wickets around.
Spotswood never looked in trouble in the run chase, finishing 5-137 with more than 10 overs remaining.
The Vernon brothers, Jarryd and Riley, were the standouts with the bat making 38 and 33 respectively.
Spotswood sits second on the ladder, percentage behind Caulfield.
Hoppers Crossing keeps in touch with the top six after victory against Elsternwick.
The Cats bowled Elsternwick out for 131, wth William Slattery taking four wickets.
The run chase wasn’t an easy one, but the Cats got the runs, finishing 6-132.
Sanka Abeyruwan top scored with 46.
The Cats sit two games outside the top six.
It was a tough day for Taylors Lakes which lost to Port Melbourne.
Port Melbourne piled on the runs making 7-291. George Sakkas took three wickets for the Lions.
The Lions started well putting on 48 for the first wicket, but the wickets then fell consistently.
They fell well short, restricted to 9-169.
Luke Denny continued his good form, top scoring with 42 at the top of the order.
Taylors Lakes sit ninth.
The tough results continued for a winless Melton as it was smashed by Malvern.
In a shortened match due to rain, Malvern made 3-207 from 35 overs.
Melton were skittled for just 69, with Imroz Pal top scoring with 15.
There was no play in the matches between Werribee and Williamstown, and Yarraville and Altona.
The four teams were awarded three points each.
In other results, Ormond had a 14 run win against Moorabbin and Oakleigh beat Caulfield.
In the north-east division, Plenty Valley had a good win against Mt Waverley.
Needing 226 for victory, the Bats made the runs in the second last over, finishing 3-227.
Callum Nankervis made 97 off 72 balls.
The win moves the Bats to third on the ladder.
The other winners were Kew, Balwyn, Croydon, Noble Park and St Bernards. There was no play between Ivanhoe and Donvale, and Strathmore and Endeavour Hills.
