After finishing with ten points in the National Premier League (NPL) last season, St Albans have already picked up four points from the first two games this year, although they know from last year not to get ahead of themselves.
The Saints were in a similar position last season starting the 2021 campaign well with eight points from the first five games although a horry run followed, where they gained only two points from the remaining 13 games of the season.
Knowing this, St Albans coach Kruni Razov did not want to comment too much on his team’s success so far this season until he sees some consistency.
“To be honest, I know it is cliche but we will just look at it one game at a time because even last year, after round five games, we had eight points believe it or not and that’s where it all started to unfold.
“Even last year we started really well so this year, I’m a little bit apprehensive to say things until we get past round seven, eight or nine and we’re still playing well and picking up points hopefully.
Despite this, Kruni does hope that St Albans can be competitive this season and achieve as much as possible.
“Every game as it comes, we want to be as competitive as we can in every game and see where it takes us,” he said.
“We will analyse it at the halfway mark and we will make a decision from there, do we go for it or are we fighting relegation or are we happy to just finish mid-table.”
Kruni believes that the new recruits have played a part in allowing his team to flourish more this season and play a more aggressive game style.
The Saints have a challenging run of games coming up with Avondale, South Melbourne and Bentleigh in the next three matches.
