Reds run riot over Phoenix

Sydenham Park has whacked Altona East Phoenix 6-1 in a stunning performance in men’s state league 1 north-west soccer on the road at the Paisley Park Soccer Complex on Saturday.

The Reds have rocketed to third in the standings after picking up their second win in three games.

It was also a day to remember for Cairnlea, which pipped last year’s champion, Western Suburbs, 2-1 at Cairnlea Park.

A single was all Westgate needed to claim all three points over Keilor Park at Ardeer Reserve.

In the NPL, Green Gully moved up to third after a 2-1 win over Richmond under lights at Kevin Bartlett Reserve on Friday night.

On the same night, Melbourne Knights were soundly beaten 3-1 by Bentleigh Greens, with the Knights tumbling to eighth in the process.

In NPL2 west, the horror start continued for Sunshine George Cross, which lost 3-0 to Ballarat Red Devils.

The Georgies have just one point from eight games this season.

St Albans Saints are four points off the top after a 0-0 draw with Melbourne City.
