It was another frustrating weekend for clubs, including St Albans, in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association with rain causing disruptions at most venues.
The clash between St Albans and Yarraville Club in senior division at Kings Park Reserve was one of the hardest hit with just 3.2 overs of play possible.
For what it’s worth, St Albans won the toss in the one-day game, batted first and reached 0-10 before play was abandoned and the game called a draw.
In three rounds, St Albans has only had one result other than a draw, around one win over Sunshine United.
Sunshine United’s battle with Strathmore was also a fleeting one. United got to 2-68 before the heavens opened up and play was abandoned.
A frustrated United is still looking for its first win of the summer.
Three of the four games in division 1 west got completed, including Deer Park’s clash with Aberfeldie at Clifton Park. It was a day to forget for the Parkers though, losing by 74 runs.
Chasing 208 for victory, Deer Park could only muster 9-133, led by 43 not out by Mark Brown.
The Parkers are fifth on the ladder with a win, a draw and a loss after three rounds.
In division 2, Sunshine posted 1-43 before its meeting with Newport-Digman was called off, while not a single ball was bowled in the Keilor Park and Laverton game.
Sunshine Heights claimed its second win of the division 3 season, beating Pascoe Vale Hadfield by seven wickets. Saman Gonawala made an entertaining 64 off 53 balls in the Heights successful run chase.
Grand United had a rough day at the office in division 4, bowled out for 74 in their quest for Aberfeldie Park’s 6-145.
In the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association, Taylors Lakes fell two wickets short of victory against Balwyn in a rain-affected match.
The Lions declared on 8-206 in order the try and get a result in the game, but the sides shared the points when stumps were drawn with Balwyn on 8-119.
Rachid O’Neale was the pick of the Lions bowlers with 3-22, while captain Jarrod Wakeling and Jason Denny snared two wickets apiece.
Taylors Lakes will resume its search for a breakthrough win when it hosts Endeavour Hills in a one-day game at Lionheart Reserve on Saturday.
