Western United’s games record holder Connor Pain will remain in the green and black for another three seasons.
The A-League club announced last week that Pain had signed a new three year contract which would increase his time at the club to at least seven seasons.
A foundation player of the club, Pain has played a significant role for the club in its first few years.
Pain said it was a significant moment for him to commit his future to the club and continue on the journey.
“It feels great. It’s something that’s been really important for me to get the future sorted so I can knuckle down and play as well as possible,” he said.
“We’re building something really cool and special here in the west and I just wanted to be a part of it.”
Pain has already made more appearances for Western United than his previous two A-League clubs and said he has made a home for himself in the west.
“It means a lot to me, because obviously it’s the longest I’ve spent at any club at this point so another three years on top of that – it’s just great to be part of it from building it from the ground up,” he said.
Pain has played 92 league matches for United and is on track to become the first player to reach the century for the club this season.
The left-winger has seven goals and 18 assists in that time and has finished in the top three in the club’s player of the season voting in all three season’s to date.
Pain was a key player throughout the 2021-22 season and was particularly vital throughout the finals series, registering three assists in the four matches which included one in the grand final.
Football general manager Mal Impiombato said keeping hold of a foundation player and a key presence within the club was cause for celebration.
“We are delighted to retain foundation player and championship winner Connor Pain for another three seasons,” he said.
“Connor’s contribution to the club both on and off the field has helped us build strong foundations and a solid platform for continued success.
“Well respected by his peers and fans, Connor’s extension signifies our intent to strengthen our squad for next season and beyond.”
