Keilor Park continues to only take it week by week in the Essendon District Football League division 2, despite what may lie ahead.
The Devils are two games clear on top of the ladder with one hand on the minor premiership.
For the Devils, top of the table is a long way from where they’ve been in recent times and shows the hard work is paying off.
Coach Paul Guicas said they weren’t going to get ahead of themselves.
“We were looking at the top two and getting the double chance, that’s what I wanted,” he said.
“The players understand the job is not done yet. We’re not looking too far ahead.
“The atmosphere is great. We had 55 at training yesterday… But things can change pretty quickly.”
Guicas said despite the different scenario of the side to recent times, the players’ heads were all in the right places.
Speaking last week, he said the group was focused for the match against Burnside Heights.
The Bears entered the match in third spot. The Devils got the win by 10 points.
Guicas said they then had some decisions to make on how they handled the last couple of matches against the bottom two teams, Northern Saints and Jacana.
“We still have a lot of hard work to do,” he said. “The next few weeks we have to work out what is best for the players and the club.
“We don’t want to go in under par. We’ve got a few niggles, do we look at possibly resting them. It’s all part of the puzzle.
“But there’s no easy games.”
Guicas said at this stage their injury list was looking pretty good, with no serious concerns over any players.
He said the depth continues to shine through at the club.
“We had two debutants last week and they played really well. It will leave a selection headache,” he said. “Everything is great so far, but it’s about looking week by week as things can change.”
Guicas said in good signs for the future, the club was set to announce some re-signings in the coming days.
He said the club was heading in the right direction.
