Running has always been a part of life for Jorge Ruben Soto Silva – so he hopes a fun run series coming to Brimbank will make it a part of life for many others.

The Medibank Park Run Series will launch its latest run, in Brimbank Park, this weekend.

Soto Silva (pictured) has been taking part in the free Park Run series since 2012, and while the five-kilometre distance of the Brimbank park outing is a bit shorter than some of his other runs, he’s excited about introducing newcomers to the concept.

“I love running in a group – it’s a real social thing for me, this series,” he said. “I enjoy helping others get through and having fun on the run.

“I’ve known lots of people who didn’t run previously, that started doing these fun runs and now they’re doing half-marathons, so it makes a big difference.

“Running can be a really mental thing, so having people to talk to while you do it helps a lot.

“Not many people care about their time, although you can. It’s more about helping everyone along.”

The event on Saturday, August 19, will run from 8am at Brimbank Park, Keilor Park Drive, Keilor East.

Medibank ambassador and fitness guru Michelle Bridges will host a warm-up for all park runners before the run starts.

It is a free event, but registration is required at www.parkrun.com.au/brimbank.
