Andrew Marth is the head coach at Melbourne Knights Football Club and has lived in the area for nearly three decades.
What is your connection to Brimbank?
I live in Taylors Lakes and have done for about 25 years, and I’ve been at the Knights for nearly 28 years as well, so I love it here.
What do you like about the area?
I love the location. It’s got great parklands, like Brimbank Park just around the corner, and it’s a quick commute to get into town.
On a good day, I can be at Docklands in 25 minutes – you just can’t do that if you live on the other side of the city.
What would make it better?
Less crime, if I’m honest. I have a mate who’s a police officer and, unfortunately, he’s kept pretty busy, which is a shame.
Where do you like to go for a feed?
I like heading down to Keilor Village, I think it’s pretty unique in the area. I hope they don’t change much down there because it is all pretty good.
You’ve been at the Knights most of your career … what makes it a special club?
I think, apart from a brief playing stint at Carlton, I’ve been at the Knights for 28 years, so I love the club.
It’s a very family oriented club with a fantastic junior program, which is very pleasing.
We own our ground and it’s very close to home, so it has been fantastic for me.
How are you feeling about the Knights this season?
I think we have recruited quite well; it’s a strong squad. Unfortunately, we’ve had a few early injuries, but those players are starting to come back, and we’re sitting in the middle of the table, so we look OK. It’s quite a young team we have at the moment, so sometimes the concentration levels aren’t quite where we would like them to be, but that will improve over the season. The FFA Cup is a huge test for us.
What would surprise people to know about you?
Maybe that I’m a pretty settled family man.
