Melbourne Knights shine with superb comeback win

Melbourne Knights have eased the pressure with a stunning come-from-behind 3-1 National Premier League win over Bentleigh Greens on the road at Kingston Heath Soccer Complex on Friday night.

The Knights were already facing a big challenge, but when they went a goal down to the Greens 11 minutes into the match, there were fears it would be mission impossible.

The Knights had played well in their previous two matches, even if they ultimately did not pick up wins, so there was belief in the Knights camp that a comeback was not beyond them.

It began with a goal to striker Tom Cahill in the 28th minute.

Cahill rose to win a header from a free kick and nestled the ball into the back of the net.

But it was not until the 77th minute, when Jason Hicks stepped up from the penalty spot, that the Knights took the lead.

The three points were made safe for the travelling Knights eight minutes later when substitute Caleb Mikulic rammed home a scorcher from the top of the box to make it 3-1.

The Knights are up to sixth ahead of a Friday night date with Kingston City at Knights Stadium.

Newly promoted St Albans Saints have picked up their first point of the season with a 0-0 draw at Heidelberg United.

It was not enough to get the Saints off the bottom of the ladder, but there were some encouraging signs ahead of a clash with Pascoe Vale at Churchill Reserve on Sunday.

Green Gully will make the trip to Port Melbourne on Friday night.

It will be a short turnaround for the Cavs, who featured in Monday night football against Bulleen Lions.
