Steven Lustica’s hot run of form for Western United has been rewarded with the midfielder signing a new contract.
The 30-year-old has signed a new one year deal to stay at the A-League club for the 2022-23 season, having been at the club since mid-way through its first season.
Lustica has scored three goals this season for United, including the side’s winner against Melbourne City last month.
Lustica said he was delighted to be able to extend his stay at United.
“I’m very excited to extend my contract. I’ve enjoyed my time here since day one, I feel very settled in Melbourne with my fiancé, Marina,” he said.
“The club is going in a very exciting direction and I’m looking forward to being a part of it.
“We’ve got a fantastic coach in John [Aloisi], we’re working very hard on the field and the end goal is we want to have success. I want to be winning trophies with this club, that’s what drives me forwards.”
Lustica is the only Western United outfield player to start every single A-League game this season.
On the weekend he celebrated his 150th A-League game.
United coach John Aloisi praised the work that Lustica has put in to play an important role this season.
“Since I came in, Steven has been outstanding to work with,” he said. “He had a really positive pre-season and has been a real difference maker for us on the pitch.
“As well as his ability, I also love his leadership and what he means to the group, so I’m really happy that he’s agreed to stay on for at least another year.
“He’s got so much experience already but I also think there is a lot more still to come from him.
“He’s working very hard, always wants to improve and is helping the younger players in the squad as well. I’m really excited to see how he can continue helping us into the future.”
