A one run thriller between Taylors Lakes and Altona was the highlight of the opening round of the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association T20 competition on Tuesday night.
The eight west teams faced each other in the opening round of the knock out competition, with some big clashes.
Taylors Lakes made it two wins in four days, beating Altona on the final ball.
The Lions were bowled out for 116 with one over remaining, with Jason Denny top scoring with 48 after coming in at number seven.
Archie Scott and Callum Hands took three wickets each.
The match would come down to the final over. The A’s were cruising at 3-97, but the wickets started to fall.
In the end, the A’s needed two runs off the final ball to get victory. Hands was run out going for a run to tie the scores, giving the Lions the win.
The A’s finished 7-115.
Scott top scored with 36 off as many balls, while Aidan Brasher took three wickets for Taylors Lakes.
Spotswood had a big win against Werribee in their match at Chirnside Park.
The Woodsmen made 9-123 after winning the toss. Skipper Jakson top scored with 29. Karthikeya Rallapalli took three wickets for Werribee.
The Tigers innings never got going with constant wickets throughout. The last six wickets fell for just 16, as the Tigers were bowled out for 73.
Matthew Harmer top scored with 22 as just two players reached double figures. Muhammad Arslan Khan took 3-14 for the Woodsmen.
Melton continued its good form, accounting for Yarraville.
The Eagles were sent in and finished with 6-120 from their 20 overs. Joshua Raymer top scored with 61 at the top of the order.
Joshua Luca took 4-19 for the Lions.
Joel Mitchener held the Lions innings together and despite losing late wickets were able to get the win with seven balls remaining.
The Lions finished 8-123 with Mitchener top scoring with 58. Ryamer took two wickets for the Eagles.
Hoppers Crossing is also through to the next round, beating Williamstown.
The Seagulls made 5-151 from their overs with James Cook top scoring with 41. Henro Dias was the only multiple wicket taker for the Cats, with two wickets.
The Cats had little trouble in the run chase, putting 104 for the first wicket partnership. The Cats finished 3-154 with 10 balls remaining.
Simon Lambert was run out for 77.
Daniel Popa took two wickets for the Seagulls.
In other results, Plenty Valley lost to St Bernard’s OC.
St Bernard’s made 4-163 from its overs, with Simon Black taking three wickets for Plenty Valley.
After losing an early wicket the Bats settled but fell short, finishing on 7-154.
Henry Cullen top scored with 44.
