Burnside Heights’ Krissy Trang consistent season has been rewarded, with the midfielder winning the Essendon District Football League Women’s premier division best and fairest award.
Trang polled in 10 of her 14 games, including the last nine rounds to win the award by four votes.
She finished ahead of Aberfeldie’s Olivia Madden, who finished with consecutive best on grounds, and seven clear of last year’s winner Bailee Said and her Sunbury Kangaroos teammate Tara McKean.
Trang said she was surprised to win the award. In the club best and fairest, Trang finished outside the top three.
“There was a few other good players like Tylah Bell and Bailee Said who I was up against. It was nerve-racking for me to see.
“It’s pretty good.”
Trang said she thought she had a good year with her speed on the outside her biggest asset.
Having started playing football in youth girls, Trang has spent plenty of time since on the football field.
“I’ve played with Burnside for two years and played a bit of youth girls when I was 16-year-old, so I’ve pretty much been playing since then.
“Burnside is like home for me, I love Burnside. I wouldn’t think of leaving Burnside.”
Trang said after a season which was ruined by injuries the Bears would look to bounce back next year.
“Unfortunately we lost the elimination final,” she said.
“We had a few under-18 girls come up and play with us and they’ve been nothing but helpful for us. They’re a bunch of little stars for us.
“We’ll come back stronger this year.”
Trang was one of five Burnside players named in the team of year. Brodie and Ebony Stevens, Kayla Ravanello and Maria Afuhaamango are the others.
Hillside coach Justin Fairservice was recognised for his work with the Sharks, named coach of the women’s premier team of the year. The Sharks were the surprise packet of the division, making a preliminary final.
