Knights march on in FFA Cup

A blistering first half fired Melbourne Knights into the seventh round of the nationwide FFA Cup last week.

The National Premier League side easily accounted for Dandenong City, claiming a 3-1 win at Knights Stadium.

After a hard-fought first 20 minutes, the Knights finally got some reward when Joshua Brekalo converted a pass from Jacob Colosimo to take a 1-0 lead.

The lead was doubled minutes later, when Marijan Cvitkovic blasted the ball past the Dandenong keeper.

Colosimo sealed the win with the club’s third goal before half-time.

Dandenong City did not lie down and pulled back one goal in the second half.

But the Knights were never in any serious danger and they coasted for the rest of the match.

The Knights will find out their next round opponent in early June once all round-six matches are complete.

The final match of the round will be played between St Albans and Port Melbourne tomorrow.

A win for St Albans would see three Brimbank-based teams reach the seventh round, Green Gully having already qualified with a win against Heidelberg United earlier this month.

Eight Victorian teams will contest four matches in the seventh round. The four winners will go into the main draw, where they could meet an A-League club or a state league team from another state.
