Keilor is hoping a strong finish to the first part of the Victorian Turf Cricket Association senior division season will hold it in good stead.

Keilor sits in fourth spot heading into the break on the back of a big win against Sunshine United at Keilor Recreation Reserve.

Blues coach Duncan Harrison said they were happy with how they had positioned themselves at this point of the season,

“We were just trying to stay in touch with the top sides, the win was important and gives us a bit more meaning heading into the season half of the season.

“We have had a challenging time with the weather and had some tough games against Yarraville Club and Deer Park.

“We’re happy to stay in touch and we can hopefully have some good form in the second half of the year.”

On Saturday, the Blues had a comfortable win against Sunshine United.

The Tigers made 9-176, with Matthew Sipala top scoring with 40 not out.

Malith Cooray took 5-37 off his eight overs for Keilor.

The Blues chased down the runs with ease, finishing 3-180 in 35.4 overs.

Cooray finished 76 not out off 73 balls.

Harrison said it was a good performance.

“It is an even comp and every side on their day can win,” he said. “Sunshine United has been in some really good form.

“We played pretty well. We had lots of energy in the field and bowled really well. The two guys at the end got us home with the bat.”

As well as starring with the bat and ball, Cooray took three catches. The winning continued off field as he claimed the club’s Christmas raffle later that day.

The Blues strong form has also flowed into the T20 competition, winning both matches to win through to the finals.

“It was really good,” Harrison said of the shorter format. “I was worried about two games during the week, I thought it would be tough.

“It was then washed out on Saturday, so the two games in a week kept us playing. I like the T20s it’s a good competition,”

Harrison said overall things were going well at the club with all their men’s sides winning in the lead up to the break

He said they were improving each week and starting to get more results coming through.”
