Keilor tumbles to a double defeat

Keilor has endured a bleak weekend in Victorian Turf Cricket Association senior division.

The Blues were comprehensively out-played by ladder leader Yarraville Club in a two-day game that ended on Saturday, then copped a heavy 58-run loss to Spotswood in a one-day catch-up game on Sunday.

Keilor remains in the top four, but its grip has been loosened considerably by the back-to-back losses.

The Blues had a chance to finish the weekend on a high note, but failed with the bat against fifth-placed Spotswood.

Chasing the Woodsmen’s 8-161, Keilor was bowled out for just 103, Dinesh Daminda top-scoring with 24. Daminda was also the pick of the Blues bowlers earlier in the day, taking 4-17 off eight overs.

With two rounds to go, Keilor has its finals destiny in its own hands. It will be very keen for a win over second-last Greenvale Kangaroos in the penultimate round at Greenvale Recreation Reserve, starting on Saturday.

In north-west division, Keilor Park’s hopes of avoiding relegation received a boost with a 35-run win over PEGS in a one-day derby at Ray Davies Reserve. The Devils managed to eke out 125 on the back of 51 from young opener Ethan McShanag.

That proved enough for the Devils to defend. They rolled PEGS for 90 on the back of three wickets apiece to Hywel Jones (3-19) and Jesse Ravenello (3-23).

St Albans had a double whammy weekend, losing a two-day game to Sunshine United on Saturday and then being beaten in a one-day game by Druids on Sunday.

The Saints could only muster 106 in 36 overs against Druids, who made 4-118 in reply.

In north A1, Sydenham Hillside had a mixed-bag weekend.

The Storm had a convincing 64-run victory over Moonee Valley in a two-dayer on Saturday, but put in a dismal showing against Jacana by making 65 when chasing a target of 126.

Sunshine ended its weekend on a high with a 236-run annihilation of Barkly Street Uniting at Maribyrnong Reserve.

The Crows set the Streeters a mammoth chase of 5-282 before bowling them out for just 46.
