Keilor Thunder rolls over latest Big V win

Keilor Thunder showed the gulf in class between the premiership contenders and the also-rans in the Big V basketball women’s state championship.

The Thunder were merciless against bottom-of-the-ladder Warrnambool Mermaids in a 109-40 win at the Keilor Basketball Stadium on Sunday.

Erin Bollman was the star of the show – the Thunder import finished with 30 points, 16 rebounds and nine steals in only 28 minutes of court time.

Chloe Hildebrand continued her fine scoring touch with 19 points, while Aneta Bandilovski had a well rounded line of 16 points, five assists and five rebounds.

Keilor is sitting fourth on the ladder with a 10-3 record, but it will be put to the test when it faces ladder leader Werribee Devils at the Keilor Basketball Stadium on Sunday.

In the men’s state championship, Keilor Thunder’s woes continued as it slumped to a fourth straight loss.

The Thunder was beaten 68-65 in a nail-biter against Hawthorn Magic at the Boroondara Sports Complex on Sunday.

The fifth-placed Keilor is 8-9 and in desperate need of a win against Corio Bay Stingrays at the Keilor Basketball Stadium on Saturday night.
