Keilor Thunder falters in Big V title tilt

Keilor Thunder has plenty of work to do if it is to clinch the Big V basketball men’s division 1 title.

The Thunder trails 1-0 in a best-of-three grand final series against the Chelsea Gulls after coughing up a lead in an 88-82 game one loss at Patterson River Stadium on Saturday night.

The good news for the Thunder is that games two, on Saturday night, and three, if required on Sunday, will be in more familiar surroundings at Keilor Basketball Stadium.

Keilor made a lightning start to the series opener to lead by eight points at half-time. But it unravelled in the second half to be out-scored 52-38.

Thunder import Jordan Coleman continued his incredible form, scoring 30 points to go with 12 rebounds.

In women’s division 1, Keilor Thunder has advanced to the grand final with a 2-0 semi-final series sweep over Geelong Supercats.

The Thunder cruised to an 80-67 win over the Supercats in game two at The Arena in Geelong on Saturday night.

Guard Amy Smith dazzled for Keilor with 31 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while Genna Anderson had a double-double 10 points and 14 rebounds and Aneta Bandilovski scored 15 points with six rebounds.

Keilor will face the Chelsea Gulls in the grand final.

The Gulls won through in dramatic fashion, beating Mildura Heat by two points in a nail-biting third and deciding game of their semi-final series.
