Keilor Thunder fails to break streak

Keilor Thunder cannot shake its losing streak in the Big V basketball women’s state championship.

The Thunder went down for a third straight game in a 76-69 defeat to Waverley Falcons at the Waverley Basketball Centre on Sunday.

It was a loss that leaves the newly promoted Thunder in the bottom three.

Keilor trailed by nine points after the first period. But the Thunder showed some resolve, working their way back into the contest to out-score the hosts in the second and third quarters.

Star import Erin Bollmann excelled with 21 points and seven rebounds to go with five steals and three blocks.

Aneta Bandilovski provided some offensive punch with 15 points, including three three-pointers.

Briana Babic was energetic off the bench with 18 points, including a team-high four three-pointers.

Waverley steadied in the final quarter to clinch a seven-point win.

In the men’s state championship, Keilor Thunder was beaten for a sixth consecutive game.

The Thunder’s woes were compounded in a 105-91 loss to Werribee Devils at the Keilor Basketball Stadium on Sunday.

Jordan Coleman was a standout with 35 points and six rebounds.

Second-last Keilor (2-6) will hit the road on Sunday to play the Waverley Falcons (6-2).
