Keilor Thunder bounces back for welcome win

Keilor Thunder has squared the ledger in the win-loss column after a confidence-boosting 83-66 win over Hume City Broncos in the Big V basketball women’s state championship at the Keilor Basketball Stadium on Saturday night.

The Thunder, who improved to 2-2, held a slender four-point lead at half-time before a second half domination was sparked by a 24-13 third period.

A feature of the Keilor victory was its willingness to share the ball around on the offensive end.

Five Thunder players finished the game with double figure points.

Genna Anderson had her best shooting game of the season, finishing with 18 points on eight-from-13 shooting.

Anderson was a standout defensively too, finishing with eight rebounds and four blocks.

Import Erin Bollmann contributed in many areas for Keilor.

She showed her quality with 16 points, nine rebounds, two steals and a block.

Amy Smith was the floor general for the Thunder with 16 points and five assists, while Aneta Bandilovski contributed 14 points and Kailyn Williams had 12 points to go with eight boards and three assists.

Keilor will remain on its home court for its fifth round encounter with second-placed Knox Raiders (4-1) on Saturday night.

In the men’s state championship, Keilor Thunder slumped to its second consecutive loss, going down 71-63 to the Casey Cavaliers at the Casey Stadium.

Jordan Coleman fired in 21 points for the Thunder, while his fellow import Hanner Mosquera-Perea had 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Keilor (2-2) will entertain Hume City Broncos (2-3) at the Keilor Stadium on Sunday.
