Keilor Thunder blown away by Jets

Keilor Thunder came out flat and could never capture that fizz in a 69-54 loss to Sunbury Jets in the Big V basketball women’s state championship at Boardman Stadium on Saturday night.

The Thunder was held to its lowest score of the season, finishing with 32 per cent shooting from the field and only four three pointers for the game.

Thunder import Erin Bollmann was a hard worker for the visitors.

Bollmann produced 16 points, 11 rebounds, four steals and three blocks.

Keilor (2-4) has fallen to third-last on the ladder after back-to-back losses.

The Thunder will need to re-group quickly with a trip to high-flying Waverley Falcons (5-1) on Sunday.

In the men’s state championship, it was a double disappointment for Keilor Thunder, who lost both games on a double header weekend.

The Thunder has now lost five consecutive games since the Easter break.

On Saturday night, Keilor went down 96-84 to Knox Raiders at the Keilor Basketball Stadium.

The Thunder was blown out of the water in the first half.

Imports Hanner Mosquera-Perea and Jordan Coleman led the Thunder scorers with 16 apiece, while Joel Bellman posted 15 and BJ Symons came off the bench for 14. On Sunday, Keilor was closer on the scoreboard, but still sunk to an 87-81 defeat.

In a nip and tuck game, the Thunder just could not find a way to sneak in front, despite the best efforts of Coleman, who had 22 points, and Chuck Long, with 17.

Keilor (2-5) will square off with Werribee Devils (2-6) away at Eagle Stadium in Werribee on Sunday.
