Keilor Park concedes ground in a finals race

Keilor Park has lost an ‘eight-point game’ to a Coburg Districts side jostling with it for a spot in the top four of division 2 of the Essendon District Football League.

The Devils went down by 30 points on home soil on Saturday and felt the after-effects by tumbling down the table to fifth.

It was a one-sided game for the most part, with Coburg flexing its muscle with a six-goal third term.

The Devils lost the first three quarters handsomely, but fought out the game to take the honors in the last term in what was effectively junk time.

Steven Gamble (three goals) and Shane Barry were the stand-outs for Keilor Park on a disappointing day.

Burnside Heights sunk to its ninth straight loss, going down to Moonee Valley by 79 points and leaving the Bears two games adrift on the bottom of the ladder.

In premier division, Keilor brushed aside finals-hunting Maribyrnong Park with ease in a 96-point road win.

Nash Holmes and Dean Galea booted four goals apiece for the ladder-leading Blues.

Galea leads the competition goalkicking with 40 in eight matches.

Keilor is a game and percentage clear of second-placed Aberfeldie, with those two to meet in a blockbuster at Keilor Recreation Reserve on June 18.

In division 1, Taylors Lakes lost a low-scoring thriller by four points to Oak Park at Lionheart Reserve.

Only nine goals were kicked in the game, with the Oakers victorious 5.7 (37)-4.9 (33).

Chris Tripodi kicked three of the Lions’ four.

It was a blow to the finals hopes of the Lions, who are two games behind the top four.
